Translating European Resilience Standards into Regional Reality
Last month, the Pathways2Resilience (P2R) Summit in Budapest gathered over 100 regions, EU institutions, and leading climate practitioners around a shared, urgent realization: climate resilience cannot remain a concept on paper. It must manifest as a robust set of decisions, investments, and partnerships that function in real-world environments.
Representing PET, our Project Manager Marko Nedeljković joined this European dialogue to exchange hard-earned lessons on adaptation. For PET, this summit was not just an exchange of ideas, but it a strategic alignment with the future of European climate policy.
What We Are Bringing Home
The insights gained in Budapest have sharpened our strategic direction in three critical dimensions:
Navigating the EU Climate Resilience Framework: We gained firsthand clarity on how the upcoming EU policy framework is being shaped. This is crucial for regional action, specifically regarding "resilience by design," where risk governance and long-term investment planning must be integrated from day one.
Strategic Peer Alliances: We established new connections with regions from both Cohort 1 and Cohort 2 of the P2R programme. This network provides PET with a unique opportunity for peer learning—understanding what practically works when developing investment plans and how to move from "stakeholder processes" to actual "project pipelines."
From Assessment to Finance: The summit reinforced our momentum to bridge the gap between systemic change and local reality. By linking high-level climate risk assessments with realistic, bankable portfolios of measures, we ensure that resilience is not just planned, but financed.
For PET, the Budapest Summit confirmed that our approach is on the right track. We are now prepared to apply these high-level European insights to the specific geographical and economic landscape of the Adriatic region.
