The Second Youth School of Energy Transition is Coming: PET Youth NET Grows

Last year, PET set out with a simple idea: young people should not only understand the energy transition, but also have a meaningful role in shaping it. That idea became the first Youth School of Energy Transition, held from May to June 2025, bringing together young people interested in energy, climate and sustainability, and introducing them to concepts and debates that are becoming increasingly important for our societies, but are still rarely addressed through formal education.

But the School was never meant to be a one-off.

It became the starting point for PET Youth NET, a network of young people in energy transition created to provide continuous opportunities for learning, research, exchange and active participation. Since the first School, PET Youth NET members have taken part in various educational activities and study visits, including two study trips to Croatia, where they learned directly from organisations and communities working on citizen energy and local energy transition.

For PET, PET Youth NET carries an equally important second role. The energy transition will profoundly affect the generations that are young today, and they need to be more than beneficiaries of policies designed by others. They should be recognised as active participants and decision-makers, whose experiences, needs and perspectives shape how energy and climate policies are developed. PET Youth NET helps us build exactly that: a community where young people grow their knowledge and skills, while PET better understands and incorporates the youth perspective into its research, programmes and policy work.

A new generation of PET Youth NET

This September, we are starting again. The second Youth School of Energy Transition will take place every Tuesday from 15 September to 13 October 2026, bringing together a new group of young people who want to understand how the energy transition works, and what role they can play in it.

Through the School, participants will gain a foundation for understanding energy transition and citizen energy, explore key concepts and challenges, and meet people working on these issues in practice. Upon completing the programme, they will become members of PET Youth NET, with the opportunity to take part in PET's future educational programmes, research activities, study visits and other learning and exchange opportunities.

For us, this new School is not simply a second edition. It is the next step in building PET Youth NET as a community of young people who are learning about the energy transition, while becoming increasingly ready to help shape it.
