PET Receives Certificate of Appreciation from the Municipality of Medijana
The Platform for Energy Transition has received a Certificate of Appreciation (Blagodarnica) from the City Municipality of Medijana in Niš, in recognition of its contribution to advancing the energy transition and helping citizens across Serbia become active participants in the process.
The award was presented at the official celebration of the Day of the Municipality of Medijana, held at the St. Sava Center in Niš on 12 October 2026. Goran Vučković, PET co-founder, accepted it on the organization’s behalf.
The recognition reflects the growing cooperation between PET and Medijana, and shows how civil society and local government can work together on energy and climate challenges while keeping citizens at the centre of the transition.
A key part of this cooperation is the development of Medijana’s Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP). PET is supporting the municipality in identifying local energy and climate priorities, developing sustainable solutions and creating real opportunities for citizens to take part in local decision-making. Particular attention is being given to engaging residents directly, understanding their needs and making sure proposed measures reflect the everyday challenges local communities face, from energy efficiency to climate adaptation.
Medijana has shown a clear commitment to taking an active role in this work, recognising that local governments are essential in turning national and European energy and climate goals into concrete actions that improve people’s quality of life. Its openness to civil society and citizen engagement offers a valuable example of how local institutions can strengthen public participation and build trust.
For PET, the partnership reflects a broader commitment to a just and inclusive energy transition in Serbia, one in which citizens are not just beneficiaries of policy but active contributors to shaping their communities’ energy future.
We thank the Municipality of Medijana for this recognition and for its continued trust and cooperation, and we look forward to building on our partnership in the period ahead.
