Beli Breg on the Energy Community Map: Local Power as a Driver of Resilience

While energy transition is often discussed in high-level boardrooms, its real impact is measured in small, rural communities. Yesterday, on 15 April 2026, the Beli Breg initiative was featured at the 21st Renewable Energy Coordination Group (RECG) meeting, organized online by the Energy Community Secretariat.

During a session dedicated to renewable energy communities in the Western Balkans, Marko Nedeljković presented PET’s hands-on experience with the Beli Breg (Popovci) initiative.

Why this matters?

This session provided a vital platform to position our grassroots work within the official Energy Community framework. The discussion with regional peers reinforced a core PET belief - technology is the easy part. The true success of energy communities depends on:

  • Clear procedures and realistic financing pathways.

  • Strong local ownership and trust built through continuous, direct engagement.

Beli Breg is more than a technical pilot, it is a tool for rural revitalization. By focusing on face-to-face participation, we ensure that the value of locally produced energy stays exactly where it belongs - within the village.
